Therapy & Faith: Insider and Outsider Perspectives

Therapy & Faith: Insider and Outsider Perspectives

The Family and Culture Special Interest Group, co-chaired by Vincenzo Di Nicola and Riyadh Al-Baldawi, hosted a webinar titled “Insider/Outsider Perspectives on Religious/Spiritual Beliefs on Therapeutic Process,” on December 3, 2022, at 11:00 AM Eastern Time, focusing on the complex therapeutic intersections where families’ lived spiritual and religious experiences diverge from conventional professional formulations. The session featured a framing presentation by Anjali Joseph, a Family Therapist from Ottawa, Canada, followed by a town hall-style discussion with designated discussant Charlotte Clous, a Medical Anthropologist from the Netherlands, designed to foster an open dialogue that critically examines how insider and outsider stances shape clinical understanding and intervention when belief systems and professional paradigms encounter each other in therapeutic settings.
