The Family & Culture Special Interest Group of the World Association of Cultural Psychiatry (WACP) held a virtual work meeting on June 11, 2022 at 1 PM EDT. It was Co-chairs by Vincenzo Di Nicola & Riyadh Al-Baldawi. The meeting aimed at shaping its future program of events, drawing on participants’ clinical expertise and experiences to identify topics of interest. Co-founders seeked to convene professionals working with families to share innovative intervention models, theoretical frameworks, and practical approaches that address the complexity of family therapy—particularly the need to integrate socio-cultural, religious, and contextual variables. Recognizing the profound challenges of international migration, both forced and voluntary, the SIG emphasized the importance of culturally informed support for families navigating displacement, disrupted relationships, and psychiatric difficulties in new host environments.
